Karting is, for many, the first step on the way to car racing. For others, it's racing, period.
Karting, or Kart racing, is a simplified version of 4 wheeled motor sports, with small vehicles called
karts. They are usually raced on scaled-down circuits, ovals, dirt or asphalt,
or windy roadcourses. Karting is commonly perceived as the stepping stone and a
great school before moving to the higher and more expensive ranks of
motorsports, think of Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher and
many others successful drivers in Formula 1, Nascar, Formula Indy and so on.
However, and Schumacher proves it, for many it's their main (motor)sports activity.
Racing karts are usually gas or methanol powered, but especially indoors,
and recently even outdoors, powerful electric karts are being used with great success.
Karts are not to be confused with go-karts, term typically used with reference to
karts available at amusements parks.
